MEET SUNSHINE

It all started with art.

Back in 1991, I met the person who would become my mentor and lifelong friend. Ironically, she was my high school art teacher. Little did I know that this chance encounter would change my life forever. Then, in 2002, she received her first cancer diagnosis. It was a devastating blow. But in the midst of her battles, we found something beautiful. We found comfort in drawing and laughter. For her, art became a way to cope, a way to process the turmoil cancer had brought into her life. And for me, it was a reunion with the teacher who had once inspired me so much. That year, we coined the phrase “ICANCERVIVE,” and it quickly became her mantra.

Even after she had beaten cancer, art never left her side. She continued to use it as a powerful tool for healing, volunteering with Arts in Medicine programs at local hospitals. Her story is nothing short of incredible—fighting and surviving through seven separate cancer diagnoses. I’m here, determined to preserve her legacy—one created through art, laughter, and resilience.

In honor of her journey, we’ve created ARTSCAPE, an outreach initiative born from the belief in art’s transformative power for those in treatment. Inspired by Donna’s journey, ARTSCAPE provides kits filled with art supplies to people undergoing treatment. It’s our way of offering a creative outlet—just as she did when she fought, time and time again.

Each kit is made possible by generous donations and sponsorships. We distribute these kits to hospitals, where they are given to both pediatric and adult individuals in treatment—completely free of charge. As long as we have supplies, we continue to provide them.
