Before podcasts there was internet radio and in 2008 I decided we needed to stream a weekly radio show. The technology was still in its infancy and I had yet to figure out how to convert audio files. It was our first attempt at hosting a show and it came with all the glitches one might expect. It didn’t matter, we loved it.  Thursday nights (9pm EST) was showtime and we spent it chatting about everything and nothing at the same time. That’s how it’s always been with us.

Things had come full circle, as I was now teaching at the same school she was at when her diagnosis first came in. I always laugh and tell people that she left me there to clean up her mess, but the truth is I think she just wanted to make sure I was ok.

The radio show was a great way for us to stay in touch despite the distance. I think she enjoyed it as much as I did. We spent a lot of time laughing, as we tend to do, and she spent a lot of time talking to listeners and telling her story. Sadly, many of those broadcasts have been lost, but a few remain intact. Enjoy the show, I always did.

In 2002 she decided to jump back into podcasting, only this time it was from her hospital bed. It’s hard to listen to at times, it’s comforting at others. She’s honest but hopeful. All the while she remains strong in her faith, despite the circumstance she’s in. I suspect one day I’ll turn to these podcasts and listen to my teacher, ushering me through her final lesson. In the meantime, I’ll keep looking for ways to prolong my attendance in her class.
