There are moments in life when stress and worry seem to take over but somehow Sunshine always found a way to laugh through it. One day she ended up in the hospital unexpectedly and had to rely on friends and family to bring her essentials like phone chargers and books and all the little things that slip through the cracks when you leave in a hurry.

I remember the afternoon we spoke on the phone and she told me a long detailed story about how she could not see clearly because she had been wearing an old backup pair of glasses she found buried in her purse. I could hear a bit of frustration in her voice but there was a sense that even in the chaos she would handle it and laugh about it later.

Her faith and her sense of humor were huge parts of her life. In the quiet moments she often read devotionals or checked in with friends and family through messages. Losing her glasses, her real ones, was unsettling for her but she shrugged it off with a laugh and insisted she would find them once she got home.

We hung up and not long after a photo came through from her. The caption read I found my glasses and there they were sitting right on top of her head. It was such a simple silly moment but it was classic Sunshine. Even in the middle of uncertainty she found a reason to laugh and to share that joy with those around her.

That ability to laugh through the chaos was one of her gifts.
